Cultural Arts

The Shoals area has four amazing theatres and two unique art museums, and a variety of arts organizations. Whether you’re interested in seeing a play, listening to music, or strolling through an art exhibit at one of the area's museums—you will have plenty of options in the Shoals.

The Shoals Theatre
Located in the heart of downtown Florence, this recently restored theatre serves as home to two of Florence’s community theatre groups, the Zodiac and Gingerbread Players. Go to ShoalsTheatre.com for an up-to-date list of productions.

Norton Auditorium
Located on the University of North Alabama’s campus, Norton Auditorium hosts a plethora of events open to the community. Norton frequently has classical symphonic concerts, as well as theatre productions by the university. Visit una.edu for listings of events.

the end. Theatre
Created to bring more contemporary plays to the Shoals area, the end. Theatre is located on South Pine Street in downtown Florence. Performances usually start late at night and aren’t meant for the kids, so be aware. Plays are often by new and unperformed playwrights from around the United States. The Ritz Theatre
The Ritz Theatre was built in 1927 and originally played all the silent picture shows that were popular “back in the day.” In 1985 the theatre was restored and is now used for a variety of cultural events. The Ritz is located in Sheffield and offers a variety of plays, concerts, seminars, and lectures throughout the year. Go to tvaa.net for full listings of upcoming events.

On Stage
On Stage, a cultural entertainment organization founded in 1936, presents four performances a year featuring world-class performers. Events are held at Norton Auditorium and Shoals Theatre and range from symphony orchestras to music legends such as Ricky Skaggs and Leon Russell. Visit www.shoalsonstage.com for details.

Shoals Symphony at UNA
You’ll be amazed that a community this size can have a symphony this good! The Shoals Symphony has regular performances throughout the year. Visit www.una.edu/symphony for a schedule.

Visual Arts

The Kennedy-Douglass Center for the Arts
Located in downtown Florence, the Kennedy-Douglass Center resides in three different historic houses, which are listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. With ever-changing exhibits, frequent juried art shows, and learning programs, something is always going on at Kennedy-Douglass. Go to kennedydouglasscenter.org for more information.

The Tennessee Valley Art Center
Located in downtown Tuscumbia, the Tennessee Valley Art Center is a visual and theater arts center. With rotating exhibits, juried art shows and workshops for all ages—there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Don’t miss the center’s special installation of artwork featuring visually impaired, blind and/or deaf artists in honor of Helen Keller who was raised in Tuscumbia.
